Field Blog-St. Joseph School Visit 3

On my third visit to St. Joseph School, the day started out with the children attending Mass.  During Mass the class got to be the choir for the day.  When they had returned to their classroom, the first thing the teacher had the students do was take a Simple Solutions quiz.  Once a student had completed their quiz, they sat at their desk and read a book until all the other students were finished.  Next, they played a round of Sparkle to practice their spelling words.  After playing Sparkle, the students had to work on a page from their reading workbooks.  When they had completed the workbook page, they checked it together as a class.  While checking the page, the teacher had the students go around the room and answer the questions, giving each student the opportunity to participate.  The class then played another round of Sparkle, and the winner of the game won a special treat.  The students took their spelling test, and the teacher gave the children a break and allowed them to play a few rounds of the game Four Corners.  When they had finished playing Four Corners, the students had to take a reading test.  Once each student had finished the test, they were allowed to get an iPad and work on their math or reading skills by playing games.  While playing on the iPads, some of the children had to stop and write a letter thanking their special friend for coming and spending Special Friend’s Day with them.  The students were allowed to continue to play on the iPads or read their books until it was time for recess.
