Homophobia is the dislike of or
prejudice against homosexual people. Heterosexism
is the discrimination or prejudice against homosexuals on the assumption that
heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation. Many people with homophobia or who believe in
heterosexism bully and are mean to homosexuals.
This bullying takes place in many schools and is a real problem in the
world. Rofes believes that children have
no say in life. They are subjected to
what their parents do and believe. Unfortunately,
children are often beaten in their own home where they are supposed to feel
safe and comfortable. Even though there
are programs set up to take children out of this situation, they do not get a
say whether they must continue to live with their parents or not. The liberal and radical distinctions relate
to addressing homophobia and heterosexism with contemporary understandings of
childhood because one view embraces the changing times and the other does not. Society is changing and starting to be more
accepting of people of all sexual orientations.
Because of liberal views, children may now feel more comfortable
admitting their sexual preferences. With
radical views, children may be afraid and not willing to open up about their
sexual preferences. Children should be
able to be themselves in school and not worry whether they are going to be
bullied or made fun of for being who they are.
The liberal views allow children to feel comfortable with who they truly
are.
